ABBOTSBURY CASTLE SLOPE SITE
Abbotsbury Castle is an Iron Age hillfort situated on Wears Hill above the village of Abbotsbury. It is seven miles west of Dorchester and the famous hillfort at Maiden Castle. It is situated on a high hill overlooking the English Channel and Lyme Bay.
The earthworks cover an area of about 10 acres (4.0 ha), of which about 4.5 acres (1.8 ha) are inside the ramparts.
Drive up along B3157 road westwards from Abbotsbury. At the top of the hill turn North and park just in between the earth ramparts in a small layby. Fly from the top on a SW. Foamies best. No facilities. We believe it is NT land. Watch out for the cars on the coast road below.
